Jan Van Hoecke
Belgian recorder player Jan Van Hoecke studied with Bart Coen at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he obtained his master’s degree with the highest distinction. He has taken part in masterclasses with Gerd Lünenbürger, Dan Laurin and Eva Legène, and studied contemporary repertoire with Bart Bouckaert, Tomma Wessel and Antonio Politano. Since graduating, he has performed widely in Europe, Japan and the United States, and in 2015 he was appointed associate professor at the Haute École de Musique of Lausanne. Jan has been a prize winner at several international competitions including in 2015 the Telemann Competition in Magdeburg (Germany), and in 2014 the Musica Antiqua Competition in Brugge (Belgium), where his awards included the EUBO Development Trust prize. Performing with Collegium Vocale Gent and participating in recordings under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe has increased Jan’s passion for historically informed performance, and he has recently recorded Bach’s organ trio sonatas with historic keyboard specialist Jovanka Marville for the Alpha label. Tours in 2016 are Jan’s first collaboration with the European Union Baroque Orchestra.
