Suonar cantando

The dynamic young ensemble Suonar cantando was founded by the globally renowned Croatian violinist Bojan Čičić. The name of the ensemble originates from the musical treatise on vocal technique under the name recitar cantando, closely related with the musical perception of the ensemble, which endeavours to communicate the poetry of instrumental music as “song without lyrics”. In November of last year, the ensemble went for an important European tour, where it performed pieces by Venetian and Viennese baroque composers. The tour included music evenings in Utrecht, Brussels, Antwerp, Maastricht, Bruges and Amsterdam.
Later in the season, the ensemble plans to record a concert programme to be premiered at this year’s edition of the Korkyra Baroque Festival, entitled Diario del viaggio Adriatico. This programme will bring to life the rich baroque tradition of the Adriatic coast by presenting pieces by renowned Croatian composers Ivan Lukačić, Francesco Sponga-Usper, Gabriello Puliti, Tommaso Cecchini, and others. Apart from making the record, the ensemble’s plans for this year include the continuation of the fruitful artistic cooperation between the director Bojan Čičić and the globally-renowned cellist Mahan Esfahani.
