Accademia Bizantina
Founded in Ravenna in 1984, Accademia Bizantina is internationally acclaimed for its historically informed performances on period instruments. Since 1996, under the artistic direction of harpsichordist and conductor Ottavio Dantone, the ensemble has developed a distinctive approach that combines rigorous philological research with vivid musical expression. Since 2011, concertmaster Alessandro Tampieri has further contributed to the orchestra’s artistic identity.
Accademia Bizantina performs regularly at many of the world’s leading concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, the Barbican Centre, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Concertgebouw, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Pierre Boulez Saal, Walt Disney Hall and Theater an der Wien.
The orchestra records for major international labels and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Gramophone Awards, Diapason d’Or, Opus Klassik, Choc de Classica, Premio Abbiati and a Grammy Music Award. Since 2024, the ensemble has served as Orchestra-in-Residence at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik.
