Barucco
Barucco can now look back on almost twenty years of ensemble history. Founded by conductor Heinz Ferlesch and oboist Andreas Helm out of their enthusiasm for historical performance practice, it has always been their goal and aspiration to present music-making true to the original with passion and liveliness.
In the beginning the group’s direction was characterised by collaborations with the choir Ad Libitum and the Wiener Singakadamie, but since 2015 Barucco has increasingly appeared with instrumental music, aria programs, operas and their own concert format “Sing on Stage”, developed together with the Wiener Konzerthaus, on the most important stages in Austria and abroad.
Highlights in 2023/24 include Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Virgine in Venice, Bach’s St. John Passion in Madrid, and Haydn’s Acide at the Esterhazy Palace.
With the founding of Barucco Vokal, a long-cherished wish has been fulfilled to establish a vocal ensemble as a new musical partner with national and international specialists who will take on both the solo and choral roles.
Several CD recordings by Barucco have been enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike. The live recording of the concert of a highly acclaimed performance of Handel’s “Judas Maccabaeus” with the Wiener Singakademie in the Wiener Konzerthaus or the performance of “Alexander’s Feast” appeared in the ORF Edition “Alte Musik”. In 2014, in addition to a DVD, the CD of Henry Purcell’s “King Arthur” arranged by Helmut Jasbar was released: “The King Arthur Seance – On Henry Purcell’s Shoulders”.
As an ensemble based in Lower Austria, Barucco enriches the regional cultural landscape and is a musical ambassador for the cultural province of Lower Austria. Its numerous activities are gratefully supported by a provincial grant. A living sign of this commitment are regular concerts in the „Haydn Region Niederösterreich“. In addition, Barucco has been performing as an organizer in Herzogenburg and Melk since 2020.
