Dorothee Mields Hunt possesses a voice that can best be described as clear and angelic. These are the qualities that immediately come to mind when listening to her sing. Without seeking the spotlight, she has established herself among the leading European sopranos in the field of Baroque music. Yet, despite its remarkable clarity and purity, her voice never sounds austere or boyish (though such angels certainly exist!); rather, it is always imbued with a warm and sensual richness.
She has performed and recorded Bach’s cantatas, the Christmas Oratorio, and the two great Passions with leading specialists in early music, including Philippe Herreweghe and the Collegium Vocale Gent, as well as with the ensemble of the J. S. Bach Foundation under the direction of Rudolf Lutz.
Alongside Bach, Dorothee Mields is equally passionate about the music of other Baroque composers, including Christoph Graupner, Georg Philipp Telemann, Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel, Heinrich Schütz, and Claudio Monteverdi. She is also deeply engaged with Renaissance repertoire, as demonstrated in the Basevi Codex project with the Boreas Quartett Bremen.
A particularly close artistic partnership links her with the Lautten Compagney Berlin, with whom she has presented thematic programmes devoted to English Baroque music, Monteverdi, and music reflecting the experience of war between 1618 and 1918.
Dorothee Mields is also active in the field of contemporary music, appearing at events such as the Munich Biennale and collaborating with the Klangforum Wien. Her extensive chamber music activities include collaborations with distinguished instrumentalists such as Stefan Temmingh, Hille Perl, Tobias Koch, and the Salagon Quartett.
