Helena Lucić Šego
Helena Lucić Šego, mezzosoprano, was born in Frankfurt/Main (Germany) in 1978. She studied German literature and comparative literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She graduated in singing from the Zagreb Academy of Music in 2005, in the class of Lidija Horvat-Dunjko. She attended master classes in French opera under Axelle Gall and in Mozart’s operatic music under Olivera Miljaković, with whom she has been pursuing her further studies. She took part in summer school of baroque music and dance Aestas Musica under Catherine Mackintosh and Laurence Cummings in Varaždin (Croatia). In 2001, she made her debut at the Croatian National Theatre (CNT) Opera in Zagreb, in Puccini’s one-act operas Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. At the CNT Opera in Osijek (Croatia), she sang Cherubino in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Nancy in the opera Martha by Friedrich von Flotow. At the opening of the Split Summer Festival in 2005, she appeared in the role of Lobel in the dramatic oratorio The Transference of St. Dujam by Julio Bajamonti, under the baton of Mo. Pavle Dešpalj, and made her debut at the CNT Opera in Split in 2008, in the role of Siebel in Gounod’s Faust. At the CNT Opera in Zagreb, she appeared as Cat and Squirrel in Ravel’s opera The Child and the Spells, as Lola in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, as Rosina in Rossini’s Barber of Seville, as Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen, as Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, as Messenger and Hope in Monteverdi’s Orpheus, as Cinderella in Rossini’s Cinderella, as Prince Orlofsky in The Bat by Johann Strauss II, and as Adalgisa in Bellini’s Norma. In 2012 she had her role debut as Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen at the CNT Opera in Zagreb. As a soloist, she also collaborated with the Croatian Radio Television Chorus and Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and Croatian Chamber Orchestra. She has been successfully collaborating with the Croatian Baroque Ensemble for many years.
