I Bassifondi
From an idea of Simone Vallerotonda, in 2014 they born “I Bassifondi”, an ensemble that proposes the music of XVII and XVIII century for lute, archlute, theorbo and baroque guitar, with the accompaniment of “basso continuo”. All the most important lute and guitar players of the past, played their music “sharing” together with other instruments. The wish to create a common executive language and improvisation, pushes I Bassifondi to propose authors less known of the world of plucked instruments, but not less important, offered in their authenticity. A thorough research of musical sources, gut strings, books of divisions, aware of never reaching the Truth, pushes the group to re-propose the ancient performance praxis, without fear or respectability resulting from romantic visions.
Their first album “Alfabeto falso” shocked the audience, with a repertoire for baroque guitar
full of harmonic extravagances, “the fake alphabet” in fact, comparable to modern jazz.
With “Roma 600”, I Bassifondi explores the popular aspects of roman baroque music, as a mirror of the aristocratic one. Now, with “La Gitarre Royalle”, the ensemble presents music for two guitars and other works by the most important Italian guitarist of the 17th century: Francesco Corbetta.
Invited in the most important festivals of ancient music in Europe, USA, South America, Australia, as the lute and guitar players of the past, I Bassifondi travel together across the world, always trying to serenely enjoy their own music and life.
In addiction to specialized festivals, I Bassifondi also plays in clubs, pubs, sharing baroque music with common people in “un-official” places… but this is another story!
