Imaginarium

Imaginarium

The ensemble Imaginarium consists of leading Italian soloists who specialise in the early music interpretation. The founder of the orchestra, the prominent Italian violinist Enrico Onofri, is the winner of several prestigious international awards and a member of globally renowned orchestras such as Il Giardino Armonico, Concentus Musicus Wien, Ensemble Mosaiques, Concerto Italiano and Divino sospiro. His experience in the performance of chamber music and his cooperation with the major contemporary musical authorities (N. Harnoncourt, G. Leonhardt, C. Coin, C. Bartoli, K. & M. Labèque) sparked the idea in him to establish an Italian chamber ensemble specialising in the performance of Italian baroque violinist repertoire. This led to the establishment of the ensemble with the unique name Imaginarium (Imaginarium – world of images), gathering the best Italian baroque instrument soloists. The audience in Korčula will get the chance to hear Riccardo Doni and Alessandro Palmerio. Riccardo Doni is the main organist in the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico and the conductor of the vocal ensemble Musica Laudantes. He has won multiple recording industry awards and is an authority on the interpretation of the works by Antonio Vivaldi and Giuseppe Sarti. The cellist Alessandro Palmeri specialises in the performance of contemporary and baroque music. So far, he has cooperated with the ensembles Il Ruggiero, Auser Musici, La Venexiana, Cantica Symphonia, Les Eléments, Bozen Baroque Orchestra, L’Astrée and Academia Montis Regalis. He has also founded the ensemble Il Ricercar Continuo, dedicated to the performance of pieces composed for baroque basso continuo.
Imaginarium, both in the above and in an expanded composition, has held numerous performances in the most prestigious European and global stages. A record, La voce del violino, released in 2006, was dedicated to Italian early baroque repertoire for the violin. The record was successful and launched the ensemble to the international world of early music. In 2010, they released yet another successful record dedicated to violin sonatas by the greatest baroque master Antonio Vivaldi. In the course of this year, the ensemble plans to record all violin sonatas by Alessandro Corelli, plus the top violin pieces by Tartini and Veracini. This year, the audience at the Korkyra Festival will enjoy a fraction of the immense and magnificent violinist opus of the greatest Italian baroque composer.
